Your tasks

In our visitor center, you are the face of the open-air museum, and good hospitality is of utmost importance. You guide visitors in the open-air museum and can inform about the entire range of the visitor destination. In the visitor center, you serve visitors on-site, via phone, email, and social media. You actively work with product sales and ensure that the visitor center and museum shop are always welcoming with goods and brochures in order.

What happens in Old Linköping is your task to convey; which museums and shops are open, what dining options are available, where and when individual events take place, when the animals are out, and where the restrooms are, just to mention a few of the questions you face daily. Many different types of visitors of all ages and nationalities come to Old Linköping. You should be able to present a suggestion on how to best spend a day in the open-air museum based on the specific visitor's interests and needs, but also be able to recommend other activities in Linköping and Östergötland.

Sales of museum shop goods and tickets for our activities are part of the workday. You handle the cash register system and report daily closures, have knowledge of the products, and can suggest gifts based on the customer's wishes, unpack and price items. You also refer visitors to other shops in the area and can broadly understand their respective offerings.

The decor in our visitor center is inspired by the 1940s, and you work in period-appropriate clothing, shoes, and hairstyles. We provide work clothes, but you are responsible for your shoes. The employment includes mandatory internal training on May 4-5 and an additional two days of training by agreement. The training takes place during paid working hours.

Your workplace

The open-air museum Gamla Linköping is one of Östergötland's largest tourist attractions and one of Sweden's most visited museums. The museum is part of the unit Linköping Art & Museums and has its organizational home in the Culture and Leisure Administration, Linköping Municipality.

Gamla Linköping depicts the small town of Linköping during the period of approximately 1700 to approximately 1950. The museum consists of three parts: the city blocks, the rural Valla farm, and the nature reserve Vallaskogen, with farmland that is used as it was in the past. Here, town and country meet within walking distance from Linköping's center.

We are now looking for new employees for the open-air museum's high season, the Summer of Times 2026. During the Summer of Times, the working method is characterized by living history, under the motto “Where history comes alive,” with a rich variety of activities for children and adults.

Who we are looking for

You have relevant higher education in tourism, communication, and/or culture or several years of experience in tourism and sales that the employer considers equivalent. The education should be started, but you do not need to have completed your degree.

We are looking for someone who prioritizes the visitor's needs and is passionate about working with people and service. You enjoy working outwardly, flexibly, and sometimes in a fast-paced environment. You have organizational skills, are structured, and self-driven. You have a good ability to collaborate and communicate with your colleagues. In the team, we are several, but we do not always work simultaneously; sometimes, you will work entirely alone.

Previous experience in museum work, cultural historical attractions, or other visitor industries, preferably in service and sales with cash handling experience, is an advantage. As a museum host, you will have regular contact with visitors from different parts of the world. Therefore, it is important that you can communicate clearly and adapt your language to different target groups. Good knowledge of Swedish and English is required, and additional language skills are an advantage (preferably German). It is also advantageous if you have local knowledge. Being able to work extra on weekends and at other times during the rest of the year is also an advantage.
